In the WYSIWYG HTML Editor you write with a Quill 2 toolbar, open Source to read the generated HTML, then download or copy the result for your sending platform. The input is visual content, and the output is HTML, a Word (.doc) file, TXT or clipboard text.

This guide covers how to keep a draft safe, how to export the code, and how to tidy it afterwards. It reflects the site as I checked it on October 7, 2026. The editor has no table support, its side preview is plain text, and nothing in it validates your markup or shows how an inbox will render it.

Table of Contents

Draft Email Copy in the WYSIWYG HTML Email Editor

Keep Your Draft Safe With Browser Auto-Save

Export the Code: HTML, Word, TXT or Clipboard

Know What the Exported Markup Contains

Where an HTML Email Editor Needs Tables

Tidy and Check the Markup Before You Send It

Frequently asked questions

Next steps

Sources and further reading

Draft Email Copy in the WYSIWYG HTML Email Editor

Start in the visual editor and write the email as plain structure: a heading, short paragraphs, a list if you need one, and links. The toolbar covers headings, inline formatting, lists, links and images, which is enough for most announcement and newsletter copy. If you want background on what a WYSIWYG editor is, that guide explains the visual editing idea in general terms.

Quill is the open-source rich-text library behind this editor, and it generates the HTML as you type. The Source control opens that HTML so you can edit it by hand and apply it back to the visual view. That source view is the main reason the editor suits email drafts: you can read exactly what you will hand to the next system.

Open the editor and write your copy using the heading, bold, italic, list and link controls.

Open Source and read the generated HTML.

Make small edits if needed and apply them back to the visual view.

Compare the visual editor with the source once more before exporting.

A short draft might produce markup like this in Source:

Autumn workshop schedule

Hello Sam, the design workshop starts at 10:00.

View the full schedule

The panel next to the editor is a plain-text preview. It confirms your wording, but it is not a preview of the email in a recipient’s inbox, so it tells you nothing about how headings, colors or spacing will appear there.

Keep Your Draft Safe With Browser Auto-Save

The visual editor saves your draft in the browser automatically every two minutes. Treat that as a convenience, not as a full html save editor with backups. The draft sits in browser web storage, which belongs to one browser profile on one device. It does not sync to another computer and it is not a copy stored anywhere else.

Several everyday actions can remove that stored work:

Clearing site data in your browser can delete the saved draft.

Private browsing storage is deleted when the private session ends.

Importing a file or a URL replaces the current editor content.

Edits made since the last two-minute save may not be recoverable, so do not rely on them.

The safest habit is simple. After any important edit, and always before importing something or clearing content, download an HTML copy and keep it in a folder you control. Give the file a dated name so you can tell versions apart. If you work across devices, move that downloaded file rather than expecting the browser to carry the draft with you.

URL import also depends on the other site allowing it through CORS, which is a browser rule about cross-origin requests, so it can be blocked. Another reason to keep your own copy of anything you cannot easily fetch again.

Export the Code: HTML, Word, TXT or Clipboard

The editor offers five output controls, and they produce different things. Pick the one that matches what the next step needs.

Control

What you get

Use it when

Download HTML

A file containing the markup

You need a saved copy or will paste code into another system

Copy HTML

The markup on your clipboard

You want to paste straight into a code field

Download Word

A Word (.doc) file

A colleague wants to review the wording in a document

Download TXT

A text file

You only need the words

Copy Text

Text on your clipboard

You want a plain-text version of the content

Use HTML or Copy HTML whenever the next step needs markup. Word and TXT exports are for reading and text content, so do not expect them to preserve email HTML, and do not send a Word file to someone who has to paste code.

Copying can fail. The browser’s clipboard API needs a secure context and can be denied, as the MDN documentation for writeText explains. If Copy HTML does nothing, use Download HTML instead and open the file in a text editor. After either route, paste into the destination and check that the first and last lines of markup are intact.

Know What the Exported Markup Contains

The markup is Quill markup, and that affects where it travels well. The homepage documents that bullet lists can use an
ol
element with
data-list
on each item, and that alignment, indentation, fonts and sizes can depend on
ql-*
classes. Those classes need Quill’s stylesheet to look right.

Centered note

Paste that into a CMS or email system without the Quill stylesheet and the class does nothing, so the line may appear left-aligned. The same applies to indentation and font choices. For destinations the editor does not control, the safer approach is the one the site itself favors: headings, paragraphs, inline formatting such as bold and italic, and links.

Inline colors are shown in the site’s own example, but a clean result in one browser does not prove that a given email client will keep them. Check the colors in the platform you use to send.

One more limit matters if you maintain existing templates. Imported HTML passes through Quill, which can drop elements or attributes it does not represent. That makes the visual editor a poor tool for round-tripping an existing email template. Keep the original template file untouched and use the editor for new copy blocks. For wider context, read the guide to the online WYSIWYG HTML editor.

Where an HTML Email Editor Needs Tables

The WYSIWYG editor has no table-building tool, and I would not assume that pasting a finished table into it, or applying one through Source, keeps a production layout. Imported content is limited to what Quill can represent. The separate HTML Table Generator fills the gap for a code-based workflow: you build a table in a spreadsheet-style grid and copy the generated markup. Optional header and caption settings are available, and cell text is escaped. Merged cells, links, styling and finer accessibility edits need manual changes to the output.

It is a table markup helper, not a complete email-template builder, so do not expect a ready-made email layout from it.

Decide first whether you need a data table or a layout table. A data table presents rows and columns of related values, like this:

Workshop times

Session

Start

Design

10:00

A layout table only arranges content. The W3C WAI table tips recommend a readable order for layout tables and presentation semantics, rather than marking layout cells as data headers. A minimal version looks like this:

Welcome to the autumn update.

Whether a given email client treats either version as you expect is something only a test can show. For data tables that need row labels, see accessible row headers in a generated table.

Tidy and Check the Markup Before You Send It

Once you have exported the code, the HTML Code Editor is a useful second stop. It offers syntax highlighting, auto-closing tags, a sandboxed live preview and Beautify HTML and Minify HTML buttons. It has no HTML validation or linting. The preview restricts forms, storage and some external resources, so it is neither an email-client simulator nor evidence that your markup is valid. Use it to spot obvious problems such as an unclosed heading or a broken block of text.

The HTML Beautifier is the cleanest way to make the code readable before you inspect it: paste, beautify, then copy or download the result. Beautifying changes layout of the source, not meaning. It does not repair invalid markup, so a missing closing tag stays missing.

Treat minification as optional. The HTML Minifier and the Code Editor’s Minify button reduce size, but the Code Editor warns that whitespace collapse can change visible spacing and content. Keep an unminified copy, compare the two, and only send the smaller version if nothing visible changed.

Beautify the exported HTML and read it from top to bottom.

Check the sandboxed preview for obvious structural problems.

Review links, image alt text and heading order by hand, since formatting is not an accessibility review.

Minify only if you need to, then compare against the unminified copy.

Send a test through your email platform and open it in the clients your readers use.

Formatting, previewing and testing are separate checks. Passing one does not stand in for the others.

Frequently asked questions

How do I keep my email draft safe in the editor?

The visual editor saves to your browser every two minutes, but that is local storage, not a backup. Download an HTML copy after important edits and before importing or clearing content, and keep the file in a folder you control.

Is browser auto-save a real html save editor backup?

No. The draft lives in browser storage on one device and does not sync elsewhere. Clearing site data can remove it, private browsing storage disappears when the session ends, and edits since the last save may not be recoverable.

How do I export the code from the WYSIWYG editor?

Use Download HTML to get a file or Copy HTML to put the markup on your clipboard. If copying is denied by the browser, which can happen with the clipboard API, download the HTML file instead and open it in a text editor.

Do the Word and TXT exports keep my email HTML?

No. Download Word gives a Word (.doc) file for reading and review, and Download TXT or Copy Text gives text content. Use HTML or Copy HTML when the next step needs markup.

Can I add a table in the WYSIWYG editor?

The editor has no table tool. Build table markup with the HTML Table Generator and add it in a code-based workflow. Do not assume that pasting a table into the visual editor or applying it through Source will keep a production layout.

Does the HTML Code Editor validate email markup?

No. It provides syntax highlighting, a sandboxed preview and beautify or minify buttons, but no validation or linting. The preview is not an email-client simulator, so test the final markup in your sending platform.

Should I minify email HTML before sending it?

Only if you need to. Minifying can change visible spacing and content through whitespace collapse. Keep an unminified copy, compare the output, and send a test to the email clients your readers use.

Next steps

A dependable html email editor workflow here is short: draft in the visual editor, read Source, download an HTML copy, handle any tables separately, tidy the code, and test in the platform that will send it. Keep in mind the limits as of October 7, 2026: browser auto-save is local, the plain-text preview is not an inbox preview, and the Code Editor does not validate. For your next step, write a short test email, download the HTML, beautify it, and send a test to yourself before you build a real campaign.

Related tools and resources on HTML Editor Online:

WYSIWYG HTML Editor

HTML Code Editor

HTML Table Generator

Sources and further reading

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Clipboard/writeText

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_Storage_API

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Window/localStorage?kbid=111697

https://www.w3.org/WAI/tutorials/tables/tips/

https://html-editor-online.com/editors/html

Learn how to draft email copy in a browser editor, keep the draft safe with auto-save and downloads, export HTML, and tidy the markup before it goes to your sending platform.
